Transitioning Into School

 

Transitioning into the school setting can be a stressful situation for both parents and new students. Here are a few things that parents and students should know to make the transition easier and a learning experience to help the students have a fresh start a successful first year in school:

 

Pre-K (K-5) Program: The Pre-K (K-5) Program is an educational initiative funded by the Georgia Lottery for Education. Pre-K provides appropriate activities and learning experiences that help prepare young children for school. The term school readiness means that children are socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively prepared for continued success in kindergarten.

 

Parents are encouraged to become involved in what your child is learning and

experiencing in Pre-K because your participation contributes to your child’s success

in school. A parent is a child’s first and most important teacher.

 

Eligibility & Requirements

A child must be a resident of Georgia and be four years of age on September 1 of the

current school year to be eligible for participation. Acceptable proof of age must be on

file the day the child begins the Pre-K program.

 

The following documents must be on file for a child to remain in Pre-K:

  • Acceptable proof of age
  • Certificate of Immunization (DHR Form 3231, revised 1/2000) within 30 daysof program entry
  • Certificate of Ear, Eye, and Dental Examination

(DHR Form 3300) within 90 days of program entry
